In a statement, the manager of Mogadishu's Aden Adde International Airport, Abdinasir Mohamud Gurey, confirmed that all flights to and from the airport had resumed and that operations had returned to normal.

The joint session of the Somali parliament was held on Sunday at the heavily fortified Afisioni airport hangar, which is located next door to the airport, where former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud was elected as the country's president for the second time in 10 years.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who served as Somalia's president between 2012 and 2017, won the election with 214 votes, while outgoing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo received 110 votes in the final round of the voting.

Activity at the airport picked up in the weeks leading up to the country's long-overdue elections.
