In an interview with VOA, Yusuf Dabageed said there was no dispute between him and Gudlawe, adding that individuals with nefarious intentions were spreading the “fake” news.

"The president and I are friends. We have our own views, but we have not had any major disagreements since we came to office. There is no reason for me to reject an open election..”

Dabageed also denied that he intended to “lock-in” or reserve seats for prominent candidates.

Dabageed’s statement comes after local media reported that there was an alleged rift between the region’s top leaders which led to
President Ali Gudlawe allegedly was barred from leaving Beledweyne.

Somalia has now elected close to 220 MPs into the incoming Lower House of Parliament. Hirshabelle trails only Jubaland for unfilled seats.
