UN envoy congratulates Somalia on 62nd independence anniversary

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, congratulates the people and government of Somalia on the 62nd anniversary of their country’s independence.

    He reiterates the United Nations’ continued commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia, the Federal Member States, and the people of Somalia in their endeavor to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for their country.

    Somalis celebrated the 62nd Independence Day in Mogadishu last night as Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza, and other government officials attended the ceremony.

    At the colorful event, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that the impacts of the drought have put the country in a challenging situation and called the Somali people to assist the government in its efforts to help those suffering from the drought.
