Mogadishu (HOL) - The Jubbaland State Electoral Implementation Team held the election of three seats in the Lower House on Wednesday.
Hassan Hussein Mohamed, who is running for the HOP126, became the first candidate to win the election in Kismayo.
Mohamed received 74 votes, while his opponent, Abdirahman Moalim Hussein, received 26 votes. Five votes were disqualified, according to the commission.
Dr. Ahmed Aden Ahmed won the second seat, HOP127, with 84 votes, while his rival Abdikadir Abdullahi Hirsi received 16 votes.
The third seat was won by Yusuf Mohamed Ismail, who was running for the HOP118 after his opponent, Omar Mohamed Omar, withdrew from the race.
As with other Lower House elections in various states, Wednesday’s election in Jubbaland was a lopsided contest. The winning MPs received more than two-thirds of the vote from delegates.
Observers note that there has been little change in the electoral procedures following the conclusion of the National Consultative Council meeting in early January. Many Lower House elections were dominated by candidates close to state leaders.
