President Mohamud due to leave Garowe after meeting with Deni

Sunday August 28, 2022

Garowe (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to conclude his four-day visit to Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland regional state, on Sunday.

Over the last three days, Mohamud met with Puntland's leader, Said Abdullahi Deni, and his deputy, Ahmed Elmi Osman, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the Federal government and Puntland state, as well as accelerating offensive operations against al Shabaab.

The President's visit to Puntland comes amid criticism from regional leaders over ministerial and senior government position allocations.

Somalia is governed by a clan power-sharing agreement that distributes power among the major clans.

Engineer Mohamud Aidid Dirir, Puntland's Minister of Information, stated on Friday that the current Somali government, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is not committed to leading the country in the federal system. He went on to say that Mohamud's government must carry out what the law has legally granted to Puntland regional state.

On Sunday, President Mohamud will meet with civil society organisations in Garowe, including entrepreneurs, youths, women, and scholars, to solicit advice for his new administration.

According to sources, the President and Deni would hold a joint press conference at the presidential palace before leaving Garowe.
