MP apologizes for throwing water bottle at Speaker during Cabinet confirmation session

    Mogadishu (HOL) - A federal Member of Parliament apologized on Friday for throwing a water bottle in the direction of Parliamentary Speaker Adan Madobe during a vote to confirm the Cabinet of Ministers.

    MP Mohamed Hassan Murjan said he "fully apologizes" for his disorderly behaviour on Sunday.

    "I fully apologize to the Somali people, my fellow parliamentarians and the Lower House Speaker of Parliament for the incident where I threw a plastic bottle directly at the speaker. I apologize to the governor," said MP Murjaan.

    Murjan's apology comes two days after the Lower House Speaker appointed a committee and ordered an investigation into the disruptive behaviour of MPs which stalled the vote.

    Somalia's Lower House parliament approved a 75-member cabinet with 229 lawmakers voting in favour, seven rejections, and one abstention.
