Jowhar (HOL) - Several people were reportedly killed and injured in a suicide blast in Jowhar town on Wednesday evening.
The suicide bomber targeted a security checkpoint near Hirshabelle's state presidency.
Eyewitnesses said the suicide bomber blew himself up when he approached the checkpoint.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack but the militant insurgency group Al Shabaab has been behind similar attacks against military targets.
Early this month, the President of Hirshabelle regional state, Ali Abdullahi Hussein Guudlawe, appointed a cabinet for the first time after being in office for two years.
Guudlawe has vowed that his administration will strengthen the security of Jowhar city against Al Shabaab.
