Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s Lower House parliament approved a 75-member cabinet on Sunday amid an uproar in parliament.
Parliament speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madoobe announced that 229 lawmakers voted in favor, seven rejected, while one MP abstained.
The uproar comes after group of members of the parliament brought a motion against the new cabinet to the table, but it was rejected by the parliament's leadership.
Last week, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, named 26 cabinet
ministers, 25 deputies, and 24 state ministers following more than a month of
consultations with stakeholders.
The ministers were sworn in by the chairman of the Supreme Court of Somalia.
Prime Minister Hamza thanked the parliament for the
endorsement of his government, promising that his government would focus on
dealing with security, drought and the implementation of the government's
policy that he had already submitted to the House.
