Sanyare said the foreign minister had come to Galkayo to disrupt public order in the region.

Foreign Minister Abdisaid Musa Ali said that he was at Nabadon Yasin Abdisamad's house for an iftar dinner and that his party was fired upon without provocation.

"Towards the end of our dinner, under the orders of Mudug Police Commander Mumin, technical vehicles mounted with DShK weapons were deployed to attack us. We were under sustained and heavy firepower from Mumin's soldiers for about 15 minutes."

Sources say that the police were led by Mudug regional police commander Mumin Abdi Shire.

The minister added that he condemned the use of violence as a political tool and vowed to hold those responsible to account.

Governor Abdilatif Muse Nur Sanyare is a member of the 11th Parliament, having been elected to HOP199 on March 18.

The clash comes as Puntland Vice President Ahmed Elmi Osman Karaash has announced that he has taken over as President of Puntland, following Said Abdullahi Deni's arrival in Mogadishu to vie for the Presidency of the Somali Republic.
