Attorney General refers Fahad Yasin electoral dispute to NCC

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The Office of the Attorney General of Somalia has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the case against the decision of the Electoral Commission to nullify Fahad Yassin's election victory on Saturday.

    The attorney general's office statement said: "The FIET Electoral Commission has followed the correct procedure in suspending the HOP86 seat."

    The attorney general said the other person who could decide on the seat was the National Consultative Assembly - the executor of the country's parliamentary elections.

    Fahad Yasin was elected to the federal parliament in Beledweyne earlier this year, but the national elections committee suspended the results immediately, citing mass electoral fraud.

    FIET announced earlier this month that the two seats annulled for irregularities will be re-contested at a later date.
