Mogadishu (HOL) - The Galmudug state government says that it is deeply concerned about the escalating political tensions in Somalia and has called on parties to refrain from unilateral decisions that could tank the electoral process.

"The Galmudug government recognizes that the country's elections were conducted in consultation, compromise and consensus and regrets actions that can create an atmosphere of political instability that would jeopardize the completion of the elections. The Galmudug government emphasizes the need to maintain the agreed process, ensuring that the National Consultative Forum resolves any disputes."

The state comes as South West State of Somalia (SWS) announced on Tuesday morning that it would no longer cooperate with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on election issues. Southwest State accused the Prime Minister of violating the independence of the electoral commissions after Roble sacked two members from the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) - including the former chairman - for derailing the swearing-in-process for elected MPs.

There are worries that the latest political fallout will lead to further delays in Somalia's elections, which have been ongoing for over a year and a half.
