Hirshabelle, South West presidents protest FIET’s move to lock out their MPs

Saturday April 2, 2022

JOWHAR (HOL) - Hirshabelle and South West states have protested the move by the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) to bar four of their elected MPs from its official list.

In separate statements, President Ali Gudlawe of HirShabelle and his South West counterpart Abdiasis Lafta Gareen said the decision by FIET chairman Muse Yusuf to lock out their respective MPs-elect was illegal and a violation of electoral rules.

“The HOP086 seat has gone through all the procedures for the election, and we have not received any complaint from the community or the candidates who contested it,” Gudlawe said in a statement.

National Security Advisor Fahad Yasin, who was elected to seat HOP86, was left from the Hirshabelle list made public by Muse on Thursday.

South West was most affected, with three seats left out. The seats included one contested by former Lower House speaker Mohamed Jawari, South West defence minister Abdikadir Mohamed Nur (Jama) but lost to security minister Issack Ali Subag. Also left out was seat HOP204, won by Sareedo Mohamed Abdalla against Fardawso Ibrahim Abdi.

The South West and Hir-Shabelle leaders vowed to stop the swearing-in of MPs and urged lawmakers from their states not to participate.
However, former security Minister Abdirizak Mohamed from Hirshabelle picked up his certificate Saturday morning, defying the state president’s position.
