Mustafa Mohammed Omar (Cagjar) led the Somali branch of the Prosperity Party (S-PP) to electoral victory. He won a five-year term.

The regional parliament also made history by electing Ayaan Abdi as the speaker, the first woman to hold that position, while Ibrahim Ali will now become the deputy speaker.
Cagjar appointed his new cabinet on Monday. The new ministers appointed today include former members of the ONLF, who have held various positions in the organization.

Cagjar promised to include members of the official opposition in his cabinet, but that does not appear to be the case.
