GAROWE (HOL) - MPs in Puntland have submitted a motion to the speaker of the state parliament to summon security chiefs over what they termed as their failure to protect the immunity of lawmakers.
The motion team led by Mohamed Haraf said the security forces in the state had failed their duties adding that the immunity of MPs was at state as they had become victims of state overreach.Speaker Abdirashid Yusuf Jabril said the security chiefs will be summoned to appear before the parliamentarians to explain why they had not secured the immunity of MPs.
The motion comes amid concerns that MPs had on several occasions in the recent past been barred from performing their duties.
It also comes in the wake of a fall out between the state president Abdullahi Deni and Puntland Security Forces (SPF) leadership.
SPF commander Mohamed Diano declined to leave office last week after he was fired by Deni sparking a rift within the forces.
