Somali military tribunal says intelligence agency not responsible for death of female spy

Sunday November 21, 2021

MOGADISHU (HOL) - A military tribunal which was formed to investigate the controversial disappearance and subsequent 'death' of the female spy agent Ikran Tahlil Farah has exonerated the national intelligence agency, NISA and instead directed blame at the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The findings however run counter to Al-Shabaab's position which denied responsibility for the murder of the intelligent agent.

Ikran disappeared from her home on June 26 but it was only until around mid July that information about her missing came into the public limelight.

The National Intelligence Security Agency (NISA) announced on September 2 that Ikran had been kidnapped and killed by Alshabaab.

But in a sharp rejoinder, the militant group said it was 'shocked' by the accusations noting it was not involved.

The alleged death of Ikran reverberated across government putting Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and President Mohamed Farmaajo at odds.

However, the two finally buried the hatchet early October after Roble arrived from Qatar where he was reportedly pressured by the Qatari regime to go slow on the matter.

The Ikran family in several media interviews banked their hopes on the Prime Minister following his strong push for a court settlement contrary to Farmaajo's out of court option.
