Kismayo (HOL) - Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) welcomed members of the international community to Kismayo on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming federal elections.
Madobe hosted a delegation led by the UN Special Representative for Somalia James Swan, the Special Representative of the AU Commission (SRCC) for Somalia & Head of AMISOM, Amb. Francisco Madeira, and members of the European Union and IGAD.
President Ahmed Madobe said that he discussed preparations for Somalia's elections with representatives from the international community.
Madobe and the multinational organizations reaffirmed their commitment to the election process and said that they would meet again in the near future to discuss the elections.
After several months of bitter negotiations, Somali leaders agreed in late May to hold federal elections within the next two months. In the new election deal, both the regional and federal governments will share the coordination responsibilities for the polls.
