MOGADISHU (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu said they have arrested a gang of robbers among them one of the two who was captured by CCTV camera robbing a phone shop after brandishing a pistol.
Police spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali told journalists six suspects have since been nabbed in a sting operation following a spate of robberies that have hit the city in recent months.
According to Ali, the suspects were arrested after members of the public reported cases of robberies to the police. The police officer said the suspects use pistols to threaten their victims and rob them.
In one case captured on CCTV, two young men are seen entering a phone shop before one of them brandishes a pistol.
The second one proceeds to pick mobile phones and other items from the shelves.
The shopkeeper is forced to lie on the ground throughout the incident before the two armed men leave the shop.
Somali police have called on the public to remain vigilant and report such cases to police posts near their areas.
