Kismayo (HOL) - The Jubaland regional administration has issued an order banning the carrying of weapons in Kismayo as a safety precaution ahead of national polls.
In an interview with VOA, Jubbaland's Ministry of Security spokesman Jama Ahmed Ali said that the state would bar firearms from being carried in public. The decision came after a meeting held by senior members of government and multiple security forces on Monday.
The directive will take effect on August 31.
Ali said that the government security officials, including soldiers and police, are exempt from the order while on duty.
The spokesman said that soldiers caught carrying firearms outside of working hours should be reported to their commanding officers.
