GAROWE (HOL) - Puntland president Abdullahi Deni has released the list of candidates who will contest in the upcoming senate elections.
But in a surprise move to former senators, Deni retained only two of them, locking out nine senators who served in the 10th parliament.
Among those left out is former prime minister Abdirashid Omar Sharmake and senator Abdirizak Osman Jurile.
In a bid to realize the 30% quota, the Puntland leader set three seats to be contested by women only.
Meanwhile, Puntland's parliament has appointed a five-member team to oversee the elections.
The team will be headed by Ahmed Jamah Adulle and includes Sharmake Ali Elmi, Abdirahman Jaabiri Samatar, Abdirizak Mohamed Sahal and Abdiqani Nuur Farah.
