Mogadishu (HOL) - Fighting in Mogadishu has spread to KM4, one of the city's main intersections.
Early reports indicate that General Yusuf Indhacade is commanding the soldiers alongside the former police commander Sadak John.
Harmacad soldiers loyal to the federal government are reportedly engaging Indacade's troops at the busy junction.
Sporadic gunfire can be heard along Maka Al Mukarama road.
A reporter on the scene has confirmed there is a heavy exchange of gunfire.
Several clashes have broken out throughout Mogadishu on Sunday. The first bullets were fired in the Sanaa junction of the city at around 2:30 pm.
Roughly a week after President Farmajo's mandate expired, General Indhacade announced that a legal government in Somalia did not exist and declared that he has taken over security at Daljirka Dahsoon.
Former Banaadir Regional Police boss Sadak John was sacked almost two weeks ago after he made a televised address ordering MPs to stay home in a bid to thwart Farmajo's two-year term extension.
The Somali government has not yet officially commented on the violence.
