Friday November 27, 2020

The fear of being targeted by ''terrorist attacks'' after normalising relations with Israel was what pushed the UAE to suspend the granting of visas to citizens from 13 countries, political and diplomatic sources in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh told ANSA.

The countries are Muslim majority and include Iran and Lebanon.

The decision by Abu Dhabi to suspend work and tourist visas had been reported in recent days by media but only on Wednesday was it confirmed by UAE authorities.

The sources said that the confederation of Arab principalities fears repercussions of a security nature after in September it officialized the decision to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.

The move was made by Bahrain and Sudan as well, following in the path tree by the UAE.

The 13 countries who citizens will now no longer be granted visas by Abu Dhabi are: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Turkey, Kenya, Somalia, and Algeria.
