MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali army has said it killed a senior Al-Shabaab figure following operations Sunday in the country’s Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.
The military radio said Sheikh Mohamed Suleiman who was the group’s head of radicalisation department was killed by the military but it did not specify where exactly the incident happened.According to an officer quoted by the station, the militant was killed in operations conducted by the forces in Middle and Lower Shabelle regions on Sunday.
The death of Suleiman which is a major blow to the al-Qaeda allied group adds to increasing number of commanders who have been killed in ground and air offensives by Somalia army, African Union forces and the US army.
The militant group has not commented on the development.
