BELEDWEYNE (HOL) - Controversy is brewing in Hiiraan region following the sacking of the region’s governor Ali Mohamed Arale and reappointment of his predecessor Ali Jeyte Osman by HirShabelle President Mohamed Abdi Ware.

Following the appointment of Jeyte who is making a comeback to the same position for the third time, Arale has vowed not to vacate office noting President Ware did not have the powers to institute his sacking.

Addressing the media Monday, Arale said he will stay put adding, “President Ware cannot remove me from office since his term is about to end.’

Ware came to office in October 2017 following the impeachment of then president Ali Abdullahi Osoble.

Arale accused Ware of ‘failure in every sector and only wants to collect money from Hiiraan Region’.

Hiiraan region is not new to controversies regarding the appointment and removal of governors.

Arale’s predecessor Yusuf Ahmed Hagar (Dabaged) declined to exit from office last year leading to a confrontation that resulted in the death of then regional commissioner Col. Mohamed Maow in June 2019.

Arale was appointed June 8, 2019 to replace Hagar.

Asked yesterday if resisting exit from office was worth another confrontation and possible harm of innocent people, Arale maintained, “I am the legitimate governor of Hiiraan region.”

A source close to President Warned confirmed to HOL that the president will be heading to Beledweyne to enforce the decree with the support of AMISOM forces in the town.
