MOGADISHU (HOL) - The Federal elections committee has postponed senate elections for a week after it failed to beat its earlier deadline.
The Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) dispatched a new timetable to Federal Member States Tuesday.
According to the new programme, registration of Senate candidates will take place between January 5 and 6 while voting will happen from January 7 to 14.
The new changes follows failure to meet the earlier timelines which had set December 30 to January 6 as voting period.
Registration of candidates was to happen from December 26 and conclude today.
Jubbaland and Puntland are yet to form their respective elections teams following running disputes with the Federal Government. Federal Member State parliaments elect Senators.
