SUPPLIED: Abdisalam Ali won the 5000m race at the U20 Swiss Junior's in Frauenfeld, Switzerland
London (HOL) - Abdisalam Ali, a Somali national has won the 5000m in the Men's U-20 Junior Swiss Championship's held in Frauenfeld Switerzland on Sunday.
Abdisalam ran an impressive 14:36:17, setting a U-20 record in Switzerland.
Last year, Abdisalam finished second in the U20 national championship's in Zurich in the 10,000m. He told HOL by telephone that after rigorous training, he is hopeful that he can secure the top finish in this year's 10,000m in Bern.
Abdisalam arrived in Switzerland in 2016 and runs under the Somali flag for Somalia in international competition's. He is the first person from a Somali background to win the 5000m race and secure a top finish in the 10,000m race.
