MOGADISHU (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu have uncovered a
cell of criminal networks involved in child trafficking
in the city and rescued children in custody of the gang.
Police spokesperson Zakia Hussein said
in a Facebook post Thursday officers from the Criminal Investigations
Department on a sting operation rescued 11 children aged between 12 years and 7
months.
The detectives also nabbed 11
individuals among them 8 who were involved in the criminal activity.
Zakia, who
is also the deputy police commissioner said the group was involved in child
trafficking and that they were on course to moving the children to their target
clients at the time of the operation.
It was not immediately clear which areas
of the city the criminal network was based.
The revelation by the police is
perhaps a one of the rarest cases to come to public limelight in Somalia.
More to follow.
