President Farmaajo jets off to Nairobi for global summit

NAIROBI (HOL) - President Mohamed Farmaajo left for Kenya Monday to attend the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).

The global conference which kicks of Tuesday brings together representatives from over 180 countries which are signatories to the treaty signed by 179 countries in Cairo in 1994.

The 179 governments adopted a landmark Programme of Action which set out to empower women and girls for their sake, and for the benefit of their families, communities and nations.

President Farmaajo is expected to present his country’s progress on empowerment of girls and women and commitments to not only protecting their welfare but also promoting them.

According to the programme of events, the summit will take an integrated approach, covering five themes and highlighting the power of gender equality, youth leadership, political and community leadership, innovation and data, and partnerships to accelerate progress throughout.

The summit is co-hosted by the government of Kenya, Denmark and the United National Population Fund (UNFA).

Meanwhile Prime Minister Hassan Khaire is attending the Paris Peace Forum which brings together world leaders and civil society in forging sustainable world peace.
