Liverpool mounts incredible comeback win against Barcelona in Champions League

Tuesday May 7, 2019

Liverpool has completed one of the most astonishing comebacks in football history, beating Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to win their Champions League semi-final tie 4-3.

Beaten 3-0 at the Camp Nou and without injured strikers Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino for the home leg, Liverpool somehow prevailed against the Spanish giant thanks to a brace each for Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

In doing so, the Reds became the first team ever to progress to a Champions League final after losing the first leg of a semi-final 3-0. It was officially the greatest comeback seen at this stage of the competition and brought back memories of their epic 2005 final win against AC Milan, in which they were down 3-0 at half-time in Istanbul.

Origi struck in the seventh minute, before strikes two minutes apart in the second half from Wijnaldum (54', 56'). Origi sent Anfield into meltdown when he scored again in the 79th minute, sending Liverpool into the lead.

The Reds held their nerve through an incredibly tense finale and will play either Ajax or Tottenham in the Champions League final. Liverpool lost last year's UCL decider 3-1 to Real Madrid.
