Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali government has opposed the Galmudug administration's announcement to postpone the presidential vote in Galmudug State, barely four days after regional authorities announced the delay.

In a statement released on Wednesday, The Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Interior Affairs and Reconciliation, Abdi Mohamed Sabrie ruled out any delay of the elections saying the poll will be held on the original date.

The minister called on the leaders of Galmudug State to resolve their internal differences and move forward to work on the development of their state.

“We want the election to take place in July this year,” he said emphatically.

The minister's statement comes on the heel of the Galmudug governments decision to delay regional elections for three years.

Earlier this week, Galmudug regional President Ahmed Duale Haaf and his Chief Minister jointly said that the region’s election will be postponed until 2021.
