Former Somali Security minister and ex-member of Somali parliament has passed away in Mogadishu.
Mohamed Qanyare Afrah who was sick recent years died at Erdogan hospital on Saturday, relatives and Somali government confirmed.
In a Twitter post, Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo confirmed the death of late Qanyare and sent heartfelt condolences to his family and relatives.
Late Qanyare was once one of powerful warlords and successful businessman in Kenya before moving to Somalia to participate in politics.
He was an active member of Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism which was later defeated by Islamic court and expelled from Mogadishu.
Qanyare served as minister for security in the government led by president Abdullahi Yusuf in 2004 and later was dismissed with disagreement with the president
In 2013, Qanyare resigned from his seat and handed over the seat to his son Cabdiweli Mohamed Qanyare.
