Turkey pledges to improve key sectors in Garissa

Garissa residents are set to benefit following a partnership between Garissa and the Turkish government to enhance growth in various sectors of the economy.

Turkish Ambassador to Kenya Ahmed Miroglu visited Garissa and entered into a partnership that will help grow the Agriculture, Education, and Health sectors.

During the visit, Miroglu toured Hyuga, Kasuku Girls Primary and Garissa Referral Hospital Eye surgical camps.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) performed free eye surgeries and treatment at the Garissa Hospital and also distributed eyeglasses to school children.

“We came with eye specialists and university students from Turkey to help improve eye sight for those who cannot afford to seek surgery and distribute eye glasses to school children whose reading capacity was hindered due to poor eye sight,” said Miroglu as quoted by the Garissa County Government Press Unit on Facebook.

The camp was organized as Turkish Embassy marked the country's 15 July Democracy and National unity week in Garissa.
Garissa county officials led by the County Secretary Abdi M Ali received the envoy when they arrived in Garissa.

Abdi who represented Governor Ali Korane lauded the Turkish government for supporting Garissa County in accelerating development.

“Garissa County will prosper to greater heights in development following the mutual partnership with the Turkish Government,” said Abdi.

CEC for Health Ahmednadhir Omar appealed for an exchange program for medical staff of the two governments to hone skills and share experience in the health sector adding that through the partnership Garissa will achieve universal healthcare targets.
