MOGADISHU (HOL) - A military court has sentenced a man accused of aiding Al-Shabaab activities in Mogadishu to ten years in jail.
The court based in Mogadishu ruled Monday Ahmed Ali Aybakar was guilty of the offence after it established that he supported elements of the group to conduct their activities with ease.According to the ruling, Aybakar provided shelter to Al-Shabaab members and also rented houses on their behalf in the city.
The defense team had argued the accused did aid the group unwillingly since he was forced to.
But the court rejected the defense argument and handed the Aybakar ten years jail with a right to appeal within 30 days.
The military court has regularly handed jail terms and death sentences to Al-Shabaab suspects in the recent past.
