The European Commission publicized on 7 August 2019 a further €50 million in emergency humanitarian aid to help the people affected by drought in the Horn of Africa.
Funding will support drought hit communities in Somalia (€25 million), Ethiopia (€20 million), Kenya (€3 million) and Uganda (€2 million). As many in the Horn of Africa rely heavily on livestock herding, the lengthy drought is causing painful consequences on the herders and availability of food supply. Which causes a chain effect impacting others in the region.
To date since 2018, the total funding by the EU humanitarian aid to the Horn of Africa region is €366.5 million
