Auckland rapper Mo Muse dedicates ‘Friday’ to the victims of the Christchurch attack

Somali-New Zealand rapper Mo Muse – aka Mohamed Muse – has released a track called ‘Friday’, dedicated to the 50 victims of the Christchurch terror attack.

“Not only do I belong to the Muslim faith, but I'm also close with the Muslim community in Christchurch, so the tragedy has hit very close to home.

“’Friday’ is a powerful and unforgiving track, but still has a feeling of glory behind it. It's also very personal to me, and the most important thing I’ve tried to achieve is to humanise the tragedy. So often we hear, "Fifty victims," and think of it as just a number.

“The central theme of the video is the victims’ names. Lyrically it's very concise, and clear. It’s almost where truth and rhyme meet.”

Mo Muse – aka Mohamed Muse – was raised in Auckland after moving to NZ as a one-year-old from war-torn Somalia. He’s been making music for a number of years now, collaborating with fellow Auckland rappers Raiza Biza and Unchained XL.

‘Friday’ is produced by Unchained XL (Hugh Ozumba), AC Beats (Angus Cleland) and Kevin Posey, but the main sample used throughout the track is from a song called ‘Black’ by British rapper Dave David Orobosa Omoreg).
