Mogadishu (HOL) - The Mayor of Mogadishu city, Abdirahman Osman Yarisow, has said the country needs political stabilization. Speaking on Monday at a ceremony to reward winners of Mogadishu mini-marathon, the mayor teased that if the politicians would have been allowed to participate in the marathon it would have probably ended up chaotically like last Saturday’s parliamentary session
A parliamentary session debating worsening security in the capital was called off after a group of vocal MPs demanded journalists to be removed from parliament for the discussion. A section of MPs who were not pleased with the request demanded that the session - which included high ranking security officials - be on the record.
“The politicians need to know the security is important, and they are needed for political stabilization,” he said.
He pledged his local government will cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to secure the city.
The remarks of the mayor come at a time when Somali forces stepped up the security operations in the Somali capital.
