In a statement, Hirshabelle Ministry for Agriculture said the authorities discovered that the agencies interfered with aid intended to give the farmers.

The deputy minister for Agriculture, Mohamed Bashir Qasim pointed out that 70% aid allocated for the farmers had been mismanaged.

"We found that the farmers get only 30% of aid and the rest is sold and used for personal use. We are aware that this is involves people at the very top of aid agencies," he said.

The ministry warned the agencies against misusing aid destined for the residents in Hirshabelle state.

"We send a stern warning to top officials of aid agencies involved in corruption and mismanagement of aid meant for local farmers," he said.

The minister did not disclose the names of the aid agencies accused of corruption.

The majority of Hirshabelle state residents who are farmers have complained about the lack of farm input ahead of the Gu rains - monsoon-like rain that lasts from late March to June.
