Bomb blast strikes Kenyan military convoy in Lamu

NAIROBI (HOL) - A roadside bomb blast hit a convoy of Kenyan military on Wednesday, leaving several soldiers injured, officials say.

The bombing took place in the Kenyan island of Lamu while a military convoy was travelling on a road, according to police officials.

There were no immediate details on the exact causalities on the soldiers who were on the convoy struck by the bomb which has reportedly suffered a significant damage.

No groups has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Somalia-based al-Shabab group, who has recently extended its deadly insurgency into Kenya, is suspected to have carried out the blast.

Kenyan officials have earlier said that elements of the group that carried out deadly attacks in the East African economic hub have set up hideouts in the Boni forest straddling the Kenya-Somalia border despite ongoing efforts by the military to clear the
