Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji who served as the head of Kenya defense Ministry has warned youth against being lured to join terror militant groups like Al-Shabaab.
Haji says that young people, especially in Northern Kenya, are falling to terror groups.
Speaking in Ijara Town on Saturday, Haji said that youth radicalization is still rife and is to blame for the high rate of young people falling for terror activities.
The Garissa senator asked local leaders and elders to help sensitize young people against terrorism and crime.
The senator asked the government to fast-track job creation in an effort to tame youth radicalisation.
He said that unemployment is to blame for high levels of crime and terror-related activities in Northern Kenya.
“My appeal is to the national and county government to out in place measures that will see our graduates get jobs in order to stop them falling vulnerable to terror groups,” he said.
The senator also asked the government to create mentor-ship programs and provide counseling services to young people especially those who graduate from universities and colleges.
Garissa in recent years has been prone to terror-related activities.
A section of leaders has blamed radicalisation for the increase in terror activities.
