Addis Ababa, May 22 (Prensa Latina) At least 1.613 436 people are considered internally displaced in Ethiopia, according to the report released today by the news.

According to The Ethiopian Herald, climatic, conflict factors and of other types contribute in that sense in 950 places throughout this nation of the so-called African horn.

However, the aforementioned newspaper, which reported statements about the UN Office of Humanitarian Affairs in Addis Ababa, made it clear that 66 percent of these people were removed from their homes due to social tensions.

The most affected areas are the states of Somalia and Oromia, two of the largest in the country, where confrontations along the border caused the displacement of 710 662 residents.

Strong clashes in the border regions last September erupted into ethnic violence, which left dozens dead and hundreds of thousands of citizens had to leave the original territories.

The dispute between Ethiopian Oromans and Somalis is latent for almost two decades, and while a referendum in October 2004 was supposed to demarcate borders, implementation stalled since both sides accused each other of non-compliance.
