Beledweyn (HOL) - A Somali police officer killed a civilian driver in Beledweyne town of Hiiraan region on Monday, according to witnesses.
The victim who has been identified as Yasin Ali Saney has succumbed to his injuries while on his way to the hospital.
Witnesses say the soldier shot his victim following a heated dispute between the soldier and the driver who was operating an auto-rickshaw.
The soldier reportedly fled the crime scene before the security forces arrived in the area.
After the incident, hundreds of locals launched into a demonstration against the killing, blocking all the major roads in the town which resulted in heavy traffic.
The demonstrators were calling on the government to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Beledweyn local authorities have yet to comment publicly on this incident.
