Somali president condemns Friday's mosque attack in Egypt

Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has condemned the heinous terror attack on Friday on a mosque in  Egypt's  Sinai Province that left over 235 people dead and scores injured.

President Farmajo said in a statement Somalia will continue to stand in Solidarity with Egypt and share the pain with the government of Egypt and the bereaved families of the attack.

“Speaking on behalf of the country and Somali people, we are sharing the pain and sadness with the Egyptian government and its people on the barbaric killing of worshippers in Rowda mosque in Egypt," reads the statement in part. 

Al-Rawdi Mosque in But Al-Abed in town was targeted during Friday prayers.

Farmajo has termed the attack which allegedly carried out by militants opposing Egypt government un-Islamic act.

"This attack of today (Friday) depicts the brutal acts of the terrorists and it’s against Islam. We shall support them against the terrorists who are tormenting some parts of the world," president Farmajo pledged.

According to state owned media, it is the deadliest attack of its kind in the peninsula since terror groups emeged Northern Egypt in 2013.

No group has yet claimed the attack but Egypt president, Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi vowed to respond with brute force during security meetings with his officials in Cairo.
