MOGADISHU,(HOL)-Galmadug state lawmaker has been killed after an attack on his car in the capital, Mogadishu.
Reports say bodyguards escorting Mohamed Abukato, a federal MP on Wednesday afternoon opened fire on the car of a regional legislator, who was identifed as Abdi Mohamed Guleed after the guards mistook his car as a security threat.
Abukate whose bodyguards shot the the MP confirmed the incident saying it was unfortunate tragedy.
" The bodyguards encountered the car of Guleed blocking the street thus they suspected it and opened fire at the car prompting the death of the lawmaker," said Abukate.
The MP was rushed to hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.
Despite Abukate sentiment, it is not clear what prompted the shooting.
This is not the first time, a government official killed in unclear circumstance, May 3rd this year, Somali minister for Public Works, Abbas Abdullahi Siraji was killed by a bodyguard escorting Somalia's former Auditor General.
