Monday May 8, 2017

The Emirates Medicine Bank has contributed to providing medical aid to 5,000 underprivileged children and elderly people by increasing medicinal stocks in the Zayed Giving Initiative clinics and mobile hospitals in Somalia.

The contribution falls in line with the #Year of Giving initiative as well as the "For you, Somalia" campaign, as per the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Dr. Adel Al Shamari, an Emirati cardiac surgeon, who leads the Zayed Giving Initiative and Emirati Doctors, said, "The Emirates Medicine Bank is a breakthrough international humanitarian initiative that gathers medical supplies and medication for the benefit of disadvantaged persons across the world."

Al Shamari highlighted the keenness of the Zayed Giving Initiative to adopt innovative ideas and transform them into a tangible reality that alleviates the suffering of those in need, while cooperating with government, private, and other non-profit institutions.

Dr. Shamsa Al Awar, Executive Director of Doctors for Humanity, said that volunteer teams visit companies and households to collect surplus medicines and equipment that is then re-distributed to hospitals in countries in need of assistance, after ensuring that the supplies are fit for purpose.
