Garissa Governor Ali Korane has promised to serve all residents of Garissa equally.
He spoke at Garissa Primary School playground during his inauguration yesterday. He was sworn in at a ceremony presided over by High Court judge Joseph Sargon.
Korane said the election is over and it is time to start delivering on his mandate.
He said his priority is providing clean water, improving healthcare and food security in the county.s
“The people of Garissa have suffered because of water crisis in the last four-and-half-years. This has affected all sectors of our economy,” he said.
He went on,”My administration will tackle water shortage by first doing an audit of the water sector, including GAWACO. We will address the water issue in Garissa township in our first 100 days in office.”
On agriculture, Korane said his administration will establish robust programmes to ensure food security. He said over 2.3m acres of arable land will be put under irrigation in a partnership with local and international investors.
The former provincial administrator, who was elected on the Jubilee ticket, said he will work with all leaders irrespective of their party affiliations, religion or clans.
“Our people are mainly pastrolists. We need to alleviate their economic hardship.” he said.
Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed, all elected MPs in Garissa led by National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale, Senator Yussuf Haji and MCAs attended the funtion.
Duale said he can now breath a sign of relief after Jubilee bagged the governor’s seat.
“Despite being the Majority leader in the National Assembly. I was like an orphan because the former governor was from Wiper. Today I stand here a very proud man. Thank you, residents of Garissa, for electing Korane, who will bring change,” Duale said.
