MOGADISHU (HOL) – Somali Special Forces have killed 15 fighters from the Al-Qaeda linked Al Shabab group during a raid in a rebel-held town in central Somalia, officials said Wednesday.
The overnight commando raid in El-Timir, a small village in Galgadud region targeted a secret military camp from which officials said was used to train suicide bombers before launching attacks in the country.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabab on the development.
It was unclear if the US forces were involved in the latest raid with Somali forces.
However, Somali Special Forces backed by US forces have carried out several raids on rebel-held town in recent months.
In March, Somali and American commandos in helicopters raided Awdhegle, a rebel-held town in the lower Shabelle region, killing at least 10 fighters two days after a US drone killed 150 Al Shabab fighters in an air raid which the Pentagon said targeted a group of fighters who were preparing to leave a training camp and posed an “imminent threat “to American and African forces.
