Payet scores a brilliant winner for France
A stunning strike from West Ham's Dimitri Payet earned host nation France a 2-1 win over Romania in the opening game of Euro 2016 on Friday night.
The West Ham midfielder struck a fierce drive into the top corner with full-time looming at the Stade de France.
Both sides squandered opportunities in the first half before Olivier Giroud gave France the lead with brave header on 57 minutes.
Romania struck back eight minutes later, Bogdan Stancu tucking away a penalty after Nicolae Stanciu was tripped by Patrice Evra in the box.
The visitors looked set to claim a draw, but Payet stepped up to curl home an 89th-minute winner to give Didier Deschamps' side the perfect start to the tournament.
