Djibouti Telecom FC have beaten Dikhil FC 4-2 to clinch the Djibouti Cup, two months after winning the national football league.
The hotly-contested match attracted tens of thousands of viewers including top government officials like the country’s prime minister, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed.
Youth and sports minister Hassan Mohamed Kamil and the president of the Djiboutian football federation Souleiman Hassan Waberi also watched the final.
The winners were presented a trophy, 25 gold medals as well as 1 million Djiboutian Frans (about sh19m), while Dikhil FC was presented a 2nd place trophy and 500,000 Djiboutian Frans (about sh9.5m).
In March, Djibouti Telecom won their 4th successive national league title.
Meanwhile, a colorful closing ceremony for the Djibouti Cup was held at the People’s Manson in the capital Djibouti and was attended by key government officials.
Djibouti has realized major progress in its football for the past three years, during which a number of football development programs have been implemented.
