MOGADISHU (HOL) – For Abdi Tahlil Warsame, 2015 hasn’t passed well, as an ailment left him bed-ridden with little support was coming through to help paying his medical bills and living.

Mr. Warsame, one of Somalia’s celebrated musicians has been ill since early last year.  Precise details of his illness have not been released.

However, Somalis from all walks of life have reached out the social media to express their support after photos of him on bed, looking frail were widely shared which has drawn an outpouring support by Somalis.

During his outstanding career that spanned more than four decades, Mr. Warsame featured hundreds of plays and music shows, largely focusing on patriotism, love and public awareness.

“He made us proud on the tough and glory days, so this is the time we should pay back.” said Sabir Elmi, a Somali journalist who lives in Sweden.

“No government has come to assistance; he is feeling helpless which shame to us.” He added.

During the decades old conflict, Mr. Warsame was among the few singers who remained in the country and while many of his colleagues sought asylum outside the horn of Africa nation.

Despite receiving some support, fundraisers say it fell short to cover his health needs.

“This is the time everyone of us will be judged whether we (Somalis) are grateful or ungrateful people – please support Abdi Tahlil.” tweeted Hamdi Hassan, a Somali-Canadian who lives in Cairo.
