MOGADISHU (HOL) – Two blasts ripped through two restaurants in the southern Somali town of Baidoa on late Sunday.
The first blast occurred after a car bomb parked outside one restaurant was detonated followed by a suicide bomber who blew himself up inside another nearby restaurant.
At least 20 persons have been confirmed dead and at least 40 others were wounded in the two blasts. At the blast scenes, youths were said to be watching soccer prior to the attacks.
Among the dead is the Deputy Disarmament Minister of the South-west State of Somalia.
Local officials said that death toll may rise as the two blasts occurred in two restaurants often frequented by politicians and civilians who most of them are Somalis from the Diaspora.
Alshabaab militias claimed to have masterminded the blasts.
