Galkayo (HOL) - Fighting between rival militias in Somalia's central Galkayo claimed three lives today and wounded seven , according to witnesses and officials.
Eyewitnesses to the skirmish told Hiiraan Online that the fighting began in Garsoor, a suburb of the divided city.
Galmudug and Puntland have a history of violence and have divided the city of Galkayo into two.
In early November, the fighting climaxed with 29 people killed and more than 50 wounded. Schools were forced to shut down and tens of thousands of civilians were displaced.
The two regions have since signed a ceasefire agreement that was mediated by Dubai that has been welcomed by the people of Galkayo. They have enjoyed weeks of peace and stability and fear this recent clash will slip them back into a cycle of vicious fighting
